PupDate!

Let’s meet the pups and get an update on mom.

They have been here for about two weeks now and have grown like little weeds. This time period of growth ( 3 – 5 weeks) is extreme and everyday comes with new interactions and changes in strength and ability to control those little bodies. We’re getting barks, wags, and lots of howls from my talkers.

We haven’t been able to experience a ton of outside time. The weather and the hawks have been huge deterrents. It’s not a great situation – they will get weird and fearful if I dont find a way to get em moving. Looking pretty promising as we move into the rest of this week so hopefully we’ll have some awesome grass and sun with big shots of vitamin D!

Arugula

Artichoke

Swiss Chard

This puppy! omg. He is a party in a fur suit. This little guy is full of energy, the last to go to sleep, and the one that NEVER misses a kiss or snuggle. He’s also a great eater and is filling up on those calories eating kibble with his fresh pointy teeth!

My sweet sweet Artichoke. He is so tiny compared to his sibling and his nose is much longer and more pronounced. He doesn’t let his size stop him and makes his space in the fray with little to no resistance. He does use his size to his advantage – convincing me to let him sleep in my shirt at least an hour a day!

This funny boy is my talker. He always has something to say and we’ve had quite a few gossip sessions. He LIVES to tell secrets and will talk over the fence giving up all his siblings misdoings. He’s fearless and busy and doesn’t miss a chance to investigate new things.

Rhubarb

Fava

Turnip

Rhubarb is a little more reserved than his siblings. He likes to take his time and think about what he’s getting into next. He plays with mom the most and does seem to really enjoy pulling on her ears. She doesn’t seem to notice though I expect that to change now that the teeth are here!

The only girl in the group! Also a little on the reserved side. She still really likes to sleep and heads right for my lap as soon as it forms. She cuddles deep into the crook of my knee and I have to be careful not to squish her! She’s all about kisses and wags her whole body.

This pup is so interesting. He has a much longer coat than the others and the brown/black mix is not like I’ve commonly seen. He’s not brindle, but there’s a lot of brown you can see it here on his eyes and legs and there’s a fair bit between his shoulders and near his tail. This fella is the king of nap and falls asleep anywhere anytime. Some of the positions he’s been in… LooL.

Mama Spring

This picture is an absolute miracle. It took a whole week to get her to believe that if she didn’t stand two inches from my face that we could and would still interact. She LOVES people and wants to be so so so close and just doesn’t have the impulse control not to be demanding about attention. She can be sound asleep and I move, just a bit, and she’s up on her feet and pressing her face into my hands or face. After a lot of “no” and ignoring her requests, she finally got frustrated and laid down. She got her pets and after about 20 minutes figured out I’d play with her if she gave me just a little space. Now we’re playing a silly game where she’s practicing her new skill and I’m trying to be consistent in only rewarding the positive engagement. She’s getting a little more sound with it everyday. We might have it figured out by the time she goes for adoption!

She’s doing better with potty activities and is willing to go outside long enough to do her business. She doesn’t want to stay so we’ve been doing some small chores around the yard to help her be more comfortable in the “other” space. Depending on how this week goes, we may graduate to the front yard and a leash. We’ll see, that seems like a bit jump atm. She may be scared of outside, but is not the least bit concerned about inside. She scales gates in a single bound and is not deterred by counter height or tables to get to things she finds interesting. She’s small, but super athletic and beyond capable of getting into all sorts of trouble. We’re practicing a little bit each day being in the spaces that require respect and offering LOTS of correction while she figures it out.

While she’s a handful and has a lot to learn about being an inside dog, she’s worth it. She has a super gentle soul and everything she does in the interest of connecting and playing. She’s just having the time of her life and can’t understand why the rest of us can’t keep up!

Random Photos of the Week

A collection of random photos from the pups this week. No explanation, very little to no editing/cropping, and no filters. Just love and silliness and maybe even a poop stain!
